Police investigate murder of ‘Okada’ rider

pThe Accra Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the gruesome murder of a commercial motorcycle rider, popularly known as ‘Okada’’, at James Town, in Accra.

The deceased, Amadu Mohammed,25, was found lying unconscious with a deep cut in his throat in a pool of blood.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command confirmed the tragedy to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.

She said on March 26 at about 1:5p.m the police had information that someone had been attacked by some unknown people and was lying at James Town, near the Ghana National Fire Service Academy and Training School.

The Police PRO said when a patrol team went to the scene, they found an unidentified young man with a deep cut in his throat, bleeding profusely and lying on a pavement unconsciously.

DSP Tenge said the team rushed him to the Emergency Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, but died shortly on arrival.

She said a search on him, revealed an Itel mobile phone and motorcycle ignition key in his pocket.

DSP Tenge said the body had been kept at the same hospital mortuary.

She said preliminary investigations revealed that some unknown customers hired the services of the motorcycle rider but was attacked and robbed of his motorcycle and personal items.

DSP Tenge said the motorcycle, and knife used in slashing the “okada’ rider had been retrieved.

She appealed to the public to provide vital information to the police, to arrest the suspects.
