Police investigate death of man at Nweneso Number One

The  Ashanti Regional Police Command is investigating an alleged murder of a 45-year -old man following a misunderstanding over a palm wine tapping pipe,  at Nweneso Number One in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.

A father of two, Yaw Kwakye, allegedly had a misunderstanding with two friends in the bush, while they were distilling alcohol.

It was not very clear as to whether he was shot and killed by the friends as it was said a gun he was holding went off and killed him during the misunderstanding that resulted in a fight.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godwin Ahyiano, Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, who confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian Times, said the two friends have been arrested to assist police in investigation.

Brother of the deceased, Isaac Manu, said Kwakye had a misunderstanding with two friends, Paa Willie, 48, and the other only known as Mustapha, 35, over a palm wine tapping pipe, which led to a fight between them on the farm.

He said Kwakye went to the site where the two suspects were working to claim his pipe and money owed him by the two suspects.

According to the brother, it was unclear what transpired between the three however, the body of Kwakye was found on the farm with gun wounds.

Other sources indicated the deceased was holding a gun and, the friends sensing danger rushed on him and they all fell on the ground. Kwakye’s hand touched the trigger of the gun leading to the shot in his armpit.
