The police have commenced investigations into alleged attack on eight persons by 15 armed men at CAC registration centre at Ajumako-Bisease in the Central Region on Wednesday.
The armed men, who were reportedly armed with cutlasses, attacked prospective voters during the ongoing registration.
The Central Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irene Oppong, confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times yesterday.
She said on August 5, Kobena Seidu, a complainant, reported to the Bisease police that he and others were assaulted and attacked with cutlasses by some men numbering about 15 at the centre during registration.
DSP Oppong said the complainant said the attackers damaged tents at the centre.
She said on the same day , two Electoral Commission (EC) officials reported at the police station that some men had threatened to cause mayhem at the centre if they continued with the registration.
DSP Oppong said following the report, a re-enforcement team of police was dispatched to the registration centre to bring the situation under control.
She said medical forms were issued to eight persons who,were reported to have been assaulted.
The PRO said calm had returned to the centre and police have also intensified patrols in the area.
DSP Oppong appealed to the public to provide the police with reliable information to arrest the culprits.
