Police investigate Accra-Winneba Highway bullion van attack

The police in the Central Region are investigating an attack on a bullion van on the Okyereko and Dominase stretch of the Accra-Winneba Highway, last Thursday, by armed robbers.

The driver and two policemen on board the van with registration number GN 6956- 17 were transporting GH¢550, 000 from the Zenith Bank, Odorkor branch.

The Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irene Oppong, told the Ghanaian Times that the armed robbers fired at the van, but the policemen and driver escaped unhurt.

She said, one of the policemen on board the van made a phone call to the Winneba Divisional Police, and personnel swiftly moved to the scene to prevent further attack.

An escort team, she said, was provided for the crew on board the bullion van  back to Accra.
