The Ghana Police Hospital (GPH) is to carry out a mass burial in three weeks for 150 unknown and unclaimed bodies which have been in the morgue for the past five months.
The public has, therefore, been given 21 days ultimatum to contact the authorities of the hospital for identification and collection of the bodies of their missing relations within such period.
The Public Affairs Officer of the hospital, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yaw Nketia-Yeboah told the Ghanaian Times in an interview in Accra yesterday that the exercise which is the first in the year was meant to decongest the mortuary.
DSP Nketia-Yeboah urged the public to contact the pathology department of the Ghana Police Hospital for identification of persons who might have not been seen for some time as part of the search.
This, he said would avert a situation whereby such bodies were added to those earmarked for mass burial after 21 days from this announcement.
The Police Hospital Public Affairs Officer appealed to the public to carry on them identity (ID) cards to help in easy identification in case of accidents or other health emergencies, adding that without identity it would be difficult for the hospital, which receives cases of unidentified persons, to trace their relations.
