Police grab man over gruesome murder … allegedly involved in gang raping, killing nurse in K’si

A 30-year-old nurse at Sewuah Health Centre, and mother of three children, has been allegedly raped and murdered by unknown assailants at Ayuom in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.

Deceased, identified as Ruth Ama Eshun, was said to have been spotted leaving Sewua Health Centre, in the Bosomtwe District, where she worked.

Meanwhile, a police source indicated to the Ghanaian Times that one person has been arrested in connection with the murder. The Police would not name the suspect as investigation is underway.

According to the Assemblyman of the area, Prince Adutwum, she was last seen by her colleagues leaving the health centre for her home, at about 3:00pm last Monday.

He claimed the deceased’s family became alarmed after she failed to return home later that day and was reported missing by her husband.

The Assemblyman claimed, the lifeless body  of the deceased was discovered the following morning  about 100 metres away from her home.

Though police in the Ashanti Region are yet to give full details on the matter, many residents believe that the young nurse might have been gang-raped and murdered by her assailants.

Ms Eshun was a staff nurse at Sewua Health Centre in the Bosomtwe District.

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association with the backing of social media users, has launched a campaign (#Justice4RuthEshun) to demand justice for the victim.

In a statement dated February 7, 2020, and sighted by the Ghanaian Times, the association described the act as inhumane and appealed to the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter with the urgency it deserves and bring the perpetrators to book.

It also urged the government to ensure the protection of nurses in the country.
