A guard of honour was yesterday held for the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, to celebrate him for his partnership with security agencies and service to the country.
An all-female guard police officers were on parade with support from the Police Central Band.
The 96-member guard, including Assistant Superintendents of Police and other ranks, was inspected by the Vice Admiral Amoama.
A citation from the GPS was presented to the Outgoing CDS in recognition of his “exemplary leadership in advocacy and promotion of partnership with the GPS and all security agencies”.
The programme, first of its kind ever to be organised by the GPS, was attended by members of the Police Management Board, Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mr Isaac Kofi Egyir, Chief Fire Officer, Mr Julius Kuunuor, Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Mr Kwame Asuah Takyi, and Commissioner of Customs, Alhaji Seidu Iddrisu Iddisah, senior personnel of security agencies, family and friends.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, in his remarks, stressed the need to celebrate the outgoing CDS for his contribution in improving security and stability in the country over the years.
He thanked Rear Admiral Amoama for collaborating with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies in promoting peace and stability in the country.
In a remarks, Mr Egyir described the outgoing CDS as “a man who is humble and never compromise quality”.
He said the collaboration between the Prisons Service and the Army was unique in ensuring the safety of personnel and their inmates.
Mr Kuunuor stated that the collaboration between the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Armed Forces through firefighting, stimulation exercises had helped to promote the operations of both organisations.
Mr Asuah stated that the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) was working hard to protect the country’s borders, which the military had supported them in such areas.
He commended the outgoing CDS for his contribution in ensuring lives of personnel of the GIS were saved. “There were times personnel lives were saved when they were airlifted by the Military to the hospitals,” he added,
Mr Asuah pledged that the Security Service would rely on Vice Admiral Amoama’s experiences to promote peace and security in the country.
Alhaji Iddisah stated that the outgoing CDS had a positive influence on the security agencies which promoted their operations.
He said, “The Vice Admiral Amoama mentored all the security personnel and embarked on successful operations which ensured the country was safe.”
For his part, Vice Admiral Amoama appreciated the Police Administration for the honour done him and other security agencies for the level of cooperation during his tenure.
“The presence of all security heads here today shows the unity between the security agencies,” he added.
He thanked God for seeing him through four decades of his successful career.
The Outgoing CDS thanked the President for the trust and confidence he reposed in him and appealed to the heads of security agencies to extend similar cooperation to his successor, Major General Thomas Oppong-Preprah, to successfully discharge his duties.
