Planned courtesy call by G/A Regional Minister on Ga Manste called off

A scheduled courtesy call on the newly installed Ga Mantse, by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Ishmael Ashitey was yesterday abruptly called off at the last minute.

The decision to call off the meeting followed an intelligence report that some factions within the Ga community who were against the installation of the new Ga Mantse had planned to cause mayhem during the visit.

Journalists invited from various media houses to provide coverage for the event were asked to go back to their offices after waiting several hours at the offices of the Regional Minister.

Although the reporting time was 9:30am, some journalist who turned up there had to wait till 10:30a.m before they were informed that meeting had been called off.

The Public Relations Officer of RCC, Madam Yaa Boateng told Journalists that “the grounds were not good” hence the programme had been rescheduled but declined further details.

Earlier, some journalists had expressed fear and predicted the possibility that the programme was likely to end up in mayhem due to the misunderstanding that had characterised the Ga kingship.

King Dr Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru was on last week Saturday installed as the new Ga Mantse after having undergone customary purification rites at the Nungua Gborbu Wulomlo Shrine.

However, the Ga Dzaasetse, Nii Yaotey Oto-Ga in a press statement on Wednesday stated that King Tackie Adama II still remained the only Ga Mantse.

The statement added that publications by both print and electronic media on the introduction of King Dr Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru as Ga Mantse “should be treated with the contempt it deserves”.

“King Tackie Adama Latse II, the Ga Mantse was nominated, elected and enstooled Ga Mantse to succeed the late Boni Nii Amugi II in accordance with the customs, traditions, conventions  and usages of the Ga state in 2011”, the statement said.
