PDS takes charge of power retail as interim arrangement

The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) and Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana have agreed on interim operational modalities to set PDS in charge of electricity retail sale.

The interim agreement which took effect on Thursday, August 8, was to ensure that customers did not get any disruption in power supply and service delivery.

This was contained in a press statement issued and signed by the Managing Director of ECG, Mr Samuel Boakye-Appiah and the Chief Executive Officer of PDS, Mr William Hutton-Mensah.

PDS on behalf of ECG would provide the service of meter reading, billing, and distribution of bills, bill reconciliation, revenue collection, new service connections, disconnections and reconnections, faulty meter replacements, network faults and repairs, complaints and fault reporting to the call centres.

“All payments and other related activities shall continue to take place at the PDS regional and district offices, PDS existing customer service centres, PDS licensed vending stations, PDS operated cash points, banks, all cheques shall be issued in the name of Power Distribution Services Ghana Limited,” the statement noted.

The interim arrangement followed an issuance of Public Notice No. 030819 by the Energy Commission, which appointed ECG as interim operator in charge of management and operation of electricity sales and the retention by PDS Ghana Ltd of the Electricity Distribution License in the Southern Electricity Zone of the country.

Customers were to call PDS call centre on 0302-611611 and all their existing social media handles for further enquiries.
