There has been a sudden positive change in public attitude towards COVID-19 vaccination exercise in the Volta Region,in the past two weeks.
“More people are now turning up voluntarily for the jab and this is very encouraging,” said Dr Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, Deputy Director of Health in-charge of Public Health in the region.
The Deputy Director in an interview with the Ghanaian Times in Ho, on Monday, said that since the vaccination exercise took off in the Ho, Kpando, Ketu South, Hohoe municipalities and the Central Tongu District, afortnight ago, public response had been favourable.
Dr Djokoto did not disclose the exact figures with regards the ongoing exercise, but said that the situation was definitely improving.
So far, he said a section of health and frontline workers, personnel of the security agencies and individuals had benefitted from the second dose of the Astra-Zeneca vaccination.
It is envisaged that before the end of September all those who are eligible for the second dose of Astra-Zeneca will receive the jab, DrDjokoto added.
He said that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine had also been deployed to the Ho municipality, “and the response is very good.”
Meanwhile, Dr Djokoto said, the Volta Regional Directorate of Health was set to take delivery 60,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine, this week, for distribution among all the 18 municipalities and districts.
“There will be adequate supply of vaccines for the region in the next few weeks,” he assured.
Dr Djokoto said that the exercise’s objective was to reach out to at least 70 per cent of the eligible populace, adding that so far, there was no obstacle in the path to achieving that goal.
According to him, there were now 89 active cases of the virus which had claimed 71 deaths in the region since 2020.
