The United Nations (UN) Youth Ghana has called on political parties to explain in their manifestoes on how to resolve the youth employment situation ahead of the 2020 general elections.
The Civil Society Organisation (CSO) which is in line with the United Nation’s general aim of maintaining peace and Security is also demanding thorough presentations from political parties on youth inclusiveness in decision making.
The Country Head of UN Youth Ghana, Ms Rita Siba Opare made this known yesterday in Accra, at a swearing in of new executives and the launch of the UN Youth Ghana constitution.
Ms Rita Siba Opare and Harry Abogya Sersah were appointed as the new Country Head and Deputy Country Head respectively. They were to steer the affairs for five a year period.
Ms Opare said following lack of consultations with the various youth groups on government policies and programmes, most policies and programmes had become ineffective in addressing challenges confronting the teeming youth.
“We have observed that the youth in the country are often left out on governments policies and programmes targeted at them. So we are demanding a thorough manifesto from political parties highlighting how to address, especially youth unemployment in the country, “she said.
Ms Opare called on government and political parties to provide the platform to afford the youth the opportunity to be part of decision-making especially those that affect them.
Deputy Country Head of UN Youth Ghana, Mr Harry Abogya Sersah said, UN Youth Ghana’s aim was to mobilise the youth to work in line with attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He called for support from government and civil societies to help intensify the work of UN Youth Ghana as well as address challenges of the youth in the country.
“There is a global call for the youth to get involved with matters that will make a difference in communities and the country as a whole,” he said.
