Parliament sensitive to public concern over new parliament chamber – Kate Addo

Kate Addo, the Acting Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, has stated that Members of Parliament (MPS) are sensitive to the concerns raised by the citizenry regarding the proposed 450-seat new parliamentary chamber for the legislature.

She explained that there was the need to listen to the concerns raised by the electorate who voted for the MPs to make laws on their behalf saying, “We’re aware of the citizens sentiments about the issue, since we all know that MPs deliberate and make laws, but we need to know that the electorate would have to elect you to become a legislature.

“If the person who took you there has questions about your actions, you need to regroup quickly with what you are doing, if parliament will go ahead with the construction of the new chamber, the proposal will be repackaged in a manner that will be acceptable to the electorate.

“If we’re going to do it, we’re going to present it in a manner that will be acceptable by the citizenry, we need to be mindful of the timing and the citizenry’s sensibilities, Parliament, as an institution, recognises the outcry of the citizenry,” Ms Kate Addo stressed.

Social media, that is, Facebook and Twitter have been awash with harsh criticism against Parliament and its leadership in connection with the new proposed chamber, which compelled the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu to rebuke MPs from making individual comments concerning the issue. -classfmonline.com
