PARLIAMENT has by consensus approved and adopted the 21st report of the Appointments Committee endorsing the 18 ministerial nominees.
The report on the nominee for the Bono Region, Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, who was vetted alongside her colleagues has been frozen for further review.
The nominees approved include Barbara Oteng Gyasi, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Region; Solomon Namliit Boar, North East; Kofi Amoakohene, Bono East; Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, Western North and Kwasi Owusu Yeboa, Oti.
Others are Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, Upper West; Salifu Adam Braimah, Savannah; Naana Ayiah, Deputy, Lands and Natural Resources; Alex Kodwo Kom Abban, Deputy, Health; Yaw Afful, Deputy, Aviation and Siaka Stevens, Deputy, Bono Region,
The rest are Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, Deputy Ahafo; John Benam, Deputy, Northern Region; Alex Tetteh, Deputy, Western North; Samuel Yeyu Tika, Deputy, Savannah; Tahiru Tia Ahmed, Deputy North East and Johnson Avuletey, Deputy, Volta Region.
Presenting the committee’s report to the House in Accra yesterday, chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu said the nominees exhibited enormous knowledge about their areas and regions they have been appointed to oversee.
Mr Osei-Owusu, MP for Bekwai and First Deputy Speaker said there were impediments in the way of Mrs Kumi-Richardson but the committee was working assiduously to address it to give her the green light to be sworn into office.
“The Committee has duly considered the nominations of His Excellency the President for Ministerial and Deputy Ministerial appointments in line with the 1992 Constitution and the Standing Orders of the House and recommends the 18 nominees to the House for approval,” Mr Osei-Owusu submitted.
In his remarks the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, urged the Tourism Minister designate to take seriously the cleanliness of Ghanaian beaches.
He said the sector was private-driven and urged the minister-designate to create the enabling environment for investors to venture into that sector.
Sarah Adwoa Safo, the Deputy Majority Leader, cautioned the yet-to-be sworn in ministers to stay away from chieftaincy issues in their respective regions.
She said the phenomenon was widespread and that any attempt to take sides in any instance would not be in the interest of the people in particular and the government as a whole.
