A 45-year-old painter, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a six-year-old kindergarten girl, at Sowutuom, in Accra.
John Arthur, who is in the custody of the police, was believed to have defiled his victim (name withheld), who was in the company of her brother, in front of a shop.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Accra Regional Police Command Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Juliana Obeng, who disclosed the story to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday, said the police are investigating the case.
The PRO said that last Saturday, at about 3:00pm, the victim and her eight-year- old brother, were playing in front of their house while suspect sat in front of a shop, close to the house.
DSP Obeng said Arthur gave his mobile phone to the victim’s brother to play ‘ game’ with, and he (suspect) carried the victim on his laps.
The Police PRO stated that whilst the victim’s brother’s attention was on the ‘game’, the suspect defiled the victim.
“Unknown to the suspect, a neighbour was watching his act from afar. He recorded the entire act on video and rushed to rescue the victim,” DSP Obeng stated.
DSP Obeng stated that the neigbour informed the victim’s parents about the case and suspect was arrested by the police at Sowutuom.
She said police issued medical form to the victim to attend hospital, but the suspect denied defiling the victim.
