P.O.P manufacturing company worker dies in Accra

A worker at a Plaster- of-Paris (P.O.P) manufacturing company at the North Industrial Area in Accra, yesterday met his untimely death when bags of cement accidentally fell on him.

 The deceased (name withheld), and his colleagues were asked to re-arrange old stock of super white cement in the warehouse, to create space for new stock of the products.

The deceased had been deposited at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy while another worker, identified only as Charles, who was injured, was receiving treatment at the hospital.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Effia Tenge, in charge of Public Relations at the Accra Regional Police Command, confirmed the story to Ghanaian Times, in Accra yesterday.

According to her, on the fateful Wednesday morning, the company (name withheld), received a truckload of cement, which needed to be discharged into their warehouse.

She said at about 10:45a.m, while work was ongoing, a quantity of the cement stock, fell on the worker killing him instantly, and a casual worker was injured.

DSP Tenge said the police visited Charles at the Kaneshie Polyclinic before  he was  transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
