The Chiefs and people of Owirenkyiman Traditional Area in the Assin Fosu Municipality in the Central Region have celebrated their annual Kantamanto Festival which kicked off from October 23-30.
The event was characterised with a series of fun and sporting activities as natives of Assin, both home and abroad participated in a football gala, fundraising, clean up and health screening, all geared towards putting the area on the tourism map of the country.
The well patronised festival was also used to celebrate the 80th birthday and 40 years of the enstoolment of the Paramount Chief of the Owirenkyiman Traditional Area, Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI.
The festival attracted many dignitaries including the first Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, Sir Sam Jonah, members of the diplomatic corps and Members of Parliament.
Ehunabobrim Agyensaim in an address touted Kushea for being the neatest community in Ghana, adding that this was achieved by dint of hard work and sacrifice in collaboration with his people.
He noted that no effort would be spared to develop and promote the tourism potential of the area to rake in more revenue for development.
The Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin challenged the gathering to emulate Nana Prah Agyensaim and strive to develop their communities.
He said many people shirked such responsibilities expecting others to do it for them saying such indictment holds no place in fostering development.
“It it is incumbent on all to lend support to every effort to develop their communities,” the Okyehene stated.
As part of the activities, a 21- kilometre marathon race took place that attracted athletes from all over the country. It begun at Assin Bunglow and ended at the forecourt of the Assin Kushea Palace.
