Ovouka: I’m the best inmy role at Hearts

Hearts of Oak defender, Raddy Ovouka says he is favourite for the left back role and not ready to lose that position to anyone.

Ovouka returned from his season loan spell with United Soccer League (USL) Championship side, New Mexico United in November.

According to the Congolese international, his performance speaks highly for him and will always command a starting berth in any club he plays.

“I don’t compete; my performance speaks for me. I deserve the left back position in any club I find myself. I respect those there but I’m the fans favourite”

Ovouka said “coming back to Hearts is to respect the contract with them as their player but not to compete for the position.”

Speaking to the Times Sports,he said his career took a different turn during his stint in the USL and attributed that to his decision to seek for a new challenge.

He added that, “my eye for goals has improved due to my attacking prowess but I have not abandoned my defensive abilities.”

Ovouka joined Hearts in 2018 and established himself as an integral part of the team under Coach Kim Grant in the 2019-20 season.

He went on to feature 29 times, scored one and contributed three assists in the 2020-21 campaign, aiding the side to clinch the Premier League and FA Cup.

Based on his blistering form for the Phobians in the Ghana Premier League, Ovouka received his maiden call-up to the Congoles national team in March 2020 ahead of the team’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Eswatini.

Ovouka, 22, has a year left on his contract with Hearts after he agreed a two-year extension in January 2021.
