Otumfuo bans Kotoko board from player recruitment

Asante Kotoko will not have new players for the season if domestic football returns.

This emerged from yesterday’s inauguration of the Dr Kwame Kyei-led Board of the Porcupines.

The directive to the new Board was issued by the owner and spiritual head of Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who said the club should not recruit any new player for at least one season.

Chief of Staff of Manhyia Palace, Kofi Badu, said Otumfuo’s directive was to enable the club use the current crop of players who the Asantehene believes have what it takes to push the club to the top.

“Otumfuo has directed that Kotoko shall not recruit any new player into the current team,” Mr Badu said at the board’s inauguration at the Manhyia Palace.

Kotoko, handled by Coach Maxwell Konadu, have nearly 40 registered players.
