The newly installed chief of Osu, Teteete Nii Nortey Owuo IV, have been inducted into the Osu Klottey Shrine on Friday as part of the final rites of his installation as Osu Mantse.
The ceremony known as ‘shamo’ was aimed at introducing the new elected chief to gods of the land and for their acceptance and recognition as chief of the people of Osu.
The ceremony had the new chief clad in all white as well as the traditional priests and priestesses also in white and other near-naked.
Leading the new chief to the Klottey shrine, the spokesperson of the Osu Dzaase, Lawrence Quist presented two bottles of alcohol and an undisclosed amount of money to Klottey Wulomo to inform him of the presence of Teteete Nii Nortey Owuo IV.
As part of the ceremony, the new chief sat on a sheep after which the animal was slaughtered and its blood poured on his feet to as part of the customs and traditions of the people of Osu.
He was later ushered into the shrine by the traditional priests and priestesses to signify his acceptance by the gods as the Osu Mantse .
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Teteete Nii Owuo IV said there was only one Dzaasetse in Osu who install a chief and without him no one can claim to be the Chief of Osu.
“We know the traditions and culture of Osu and anyone who has bypassed the traditions and culture of land should be disregarded,” Teteete Nii Owuo IV said.
He pleaded that politics should not be meddled into chieftaincy affairs adding that it has the tendency of destroying the community.
” Do not destroy our community for us because there is only one Osu, we are coming to develop Osu and anyone that tries to interfere it with politics will be dealt with,” he said.
He thanked the elders and the youth for ensuring that right customs and traditions were followed to install him as the chief of Osu.
Teteete Nii Nortey Owuo IV was out-doored and sworn in as Osu Mantse by the Dzaasetse, Nii Saban Atsen VII last week in Osu.
The new chief will take over as Osu Mantse after the demise of the late Osu Mantse Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI in February last year.
His burial ceremonies begin today.
