One Tamale COVID-19 case escapes from quarantine

One of the foreigners who tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale has escaped from the quarantine centre.

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed who disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times in an interview yesterday said that the 21- year -old woman left her mobile phones and other personal belongings and fled.

He said that security personnel who were stationed at the quarantine centre have been ordered to give detailed accounts of how she managed to escape.

According to him the lady was alleged to have scaled over the wall of the centre.

The news of the escape of the lady has created fear and panic in the entire region.

Some of the residents, especially those in the Tamale metropolis fear the lady might deliberately infect other people.

Mr Issah Tufelo a resident in an interview with the Ghanaian Times appealed to the authorities to do all in their power to get hold of the lady.

Meanwhile, the Regional Minister has assured that every effort would be made to re-arrest and quarantine her as soon as possible.

“We would go every length to find and quarantine the lady,” Mr Saeed assured.

The minister advised the people to take adequate personal precautionary measures and observe social distancing at all times.

It is recalled that 10 Guineans tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday bringing  the number of confirmed cases in the country to 152 with five deaths.
