One die, 10 injured in accident on Accra-Cape Coast highway

One person has been confirmed dead during an accident involving Metro Mass Transit bus and a Toyota Corolla car at Ekumfi Akwakrom on the Accra-Cape Coast highway.

Ten others who sustained various injuries were rushed to the   Mankessim Roman Catholic Hospital for treatment.

The deceased, who happened to be the driver of the saloon car died instantly after the crash.

The bus with registration number GS 2614-17 was from Accra heading towards Takoradi while the Toyota Corolla with registration number GV 22-14 was from the Mankessim end towards  Accra.

A source at the Mankessim Divisional Police Command who confirmed the accident, said the driver of the Toyota Corolla was alleged to have made a wrong overtaking in a sharp curve on reaching the place  and collided with the on-coming  Metro Mass Transit bus.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla, he said, was speeding and therefore could not apply the brakes when the vehicle negotiated the sharp curve and then realised the on-coming vehicle.

He said the saloon car therefore, collided with the on-coming bus whose driver could not salvage the situation due to the sharp nature of the curve.

The body of the deceased had been deposited at Saltpond Government Hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
