Accra Great Olympics produced yet another outstanding performance yesterday to beat King Faisal 3-1 in their match day 12 mid-week fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Goals from Charles Danso, Maxwell Abbey Quaye and Michael Yeboah made it three wins on the run for Coach Yaw Preko and his charges.
Yesterday’s feat was achieved without their skipper and midfield general, Gladson Awako and Michel Otou who missed after having three suspensions.
A brilliant piece of play from Maxwell Abbey Quaye found Mudashiru Manaf who served a pass to Charles Danso to score from close range to give Olympics the lead on the 33rd minute.
Minutes later, Eric Osei Bonsu almost doubled the lead for Olympics but goalkeeper Adam Jabal punched it to safety.
Olympics kept probing and could have scored more goals but Mudashiru, Samuel Abbey and Maxwell Abbey failed to convert their chances.
The search for a second goal saw the home side mount pressure but it was Faisal’s Wadudu Yakubu who threatened with a long drive which Oly goalkeeper Saed Salifu parried to corner.
Four minutes later, Maxwell Abbey Quaye controlled a breath-taken pass from Samuel Abbey to shoot past goalkeeper Adam Jabal to make it two for the Wonder Club.
King Faisal brought on Zibairu Ibrahim, Kwame Bwoakyi and Godfred Appiah for Emmanuel Maidawa, Albert Mensah and Pius Awauh in search of a consolation.
But it was Oly’s Mudashiru who failed to connect from Philip Sackey’s cross for goalkeeper Adam’s Jabal to save. The striker was later replaced by Hamza Zakari.
The final 25 minutes was dominated by the visitors who pulled one back in the 74th minute with a powerful 35-yard drive from forward Frimpong Boateng.
With nine minutes to full time, Michael Yeboah made it three from a rebound after Samuel Abbey’s strike from close range.
The win sends the ‘Dade’ boys to second place with 18 points as leagues Karela ahead of today’s matches.
