Accra Great Olympics midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, has urged the club’s teeming faithful to keep faith with the team.
According to him, though recent results have not gone the way they want, it has not reached crisis point as a section of fans have alluded to.
“I don’t think Oly is in crisis at the moment; yes we may have had some few low points in the past games – losing 3-0 to city rivals Accra Lions and drawing with Dreams FC on Sunday but that can’t be a crisis situation.”
Responding to questions from Journalists after the draw encounter with Dreams FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, Agyemang-Badu noted that the draw result although not good for his side, but was part of the game.
“Yes, we should have won the game against Dreams FC after creating a lot of chances but that is football for you; one mistake then the opponents take advantage of it and punishes you. That’s exactly what happened to us.”
“We are playing very well; the coaches are doing their very best for us. The only thing I think we need to change is our mentality. Whenever we go ahead in a game then the mentality changes.
“Instead of ‘killing’ the game, we end up either in a draw or lose the game. These are the things I feel we need to address as a body in order to make our top four dream a reality.”
According to him, the team was not playing badly for anyone to tag them as a crisis team, “the league table looks funny because when you lose a game you drop and when you win a game it shoots you up the table.”
“We are currently ninth on the table. Only three points separate us from the second placed team on the table so all is not lost for us. The league is like a marathon; for now it’s far from the end.”
“We need to go back to the drawing board to correct our mistakes. We would try and correct them and recover well for the next game against Nsoatreman on Sunday.
According to the juvenile FIFA World Cup winner, the game against Dreams FC was a good one that saw the team played well and created a lot chances as well.
However, the confidence in front of goal, he said, proved the team’s problem as they blew away the chances,” he stated.
The former Black Stars midfielder said this was the period the team needed the fans most, adding that “they must not get discouraged or turn their backs to the team at this moment of the season.
“We have boys who are very young; some are now experiencing the league for the first time in their lives and would need all the necessary support and encouragement to get the desired results.
“We the playing body are not okay with our current position and results from games, but we will change things in the coming games,” Agyemang-Badu added.
