Old NAVASCANS Union (Nabia) of the Navrongo Senior High School in the Upper East Region on Friday held its 2021 Homecoming and Annual General Meeting (AGM)as part of the 60th anniversary celebration in Navrongo.
The union was formed in June 1976 as a platform for the old students referred to as Nabia(Princess and prince) to contribute to the development of their alma mater.
The AGM drew attendance from Nabia across the country and branches from Nigeria, Denmark with goodwill messages from other branches across the globe.
The 86 -year -old former Headmaster, Colins Macdonald, who joined via Zoom from St Andrews in Scotland, commended the school for its successes since its inception in September 1960.
Mcdonald was the sixth headmaster (1969-1980) and has been credited for enhancing excellent academic work that propelled the school to greater heights.
Among the highlights of the meeting were the honouring and decoration of some 20 pioneers of the school and other Nabia who were awarded Grand Order and Order of theNabia, for the contribution to the development of their alma mater.
Deserving students of the school were also given awards for good academic performance.
The 1981 year group symbolically handed over of the main school gate which was solely funded by them.
The outgoing Global President of the union, Alhaji Mohammed Cambodia Haroon, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders of the school for the “very cordial and fruitful working relations” and prayed that the school would continue to “shine nationally and globally in all spheres” as motivation to younger generation.
He said the past 10 years the executives had been in office saw ” remarkable transformation and improvement” in the union including establishment of branches across the country and in UK, USA, Canada,North America, Switzerland, Denmark and Norway.
Other achievements included creation of social media platforms for easy interaction,organisation of annual AGM, Homecoming, Mole retreats, review of constitution and construction of projects including the School clinic as anniversary monument.
That notwithstanding, AlhajiHaroon said the school required face-lift in several areas including the road network and other infrastructure and appealed for intervention.
He commended the Nabia for their financial contribution to development projects in the school.
Alhaji Cambodia urged the new executives to work assiduously with stakeholders to address the declining academic performance of the school that stood high in academic.
