OLA Ho cries for more facilities

The infrastructure at the OLA SHS, Ho can no longer contain the swelling students enrolment, according to the headmistress, Madam Regina Coffie.

For instance, Madam Coffie mentioned that the dining hall, library and the various science laboratories were “too small for the number of students in the school”.

The headmistress expressed the urgent need to complete the 12-unit classroom block to ease the congestion in the classrooms.

Speaking at the 66th Speech and Prize Giving Day of the school on Saturday, the headmistress said that although OLA Ho was among the oldest second cycle institutions in the Volta Region, the school needed adequate classroom blocks for academic and other activities on campus.

Similarly, she said that there was the urgent need for more staff bungalows, a bigger staff common room and washrooms.

Meanwhile, Madam Coffie highlighted the need for the school’s perimeter wall to be raised, to prevent intruders and drug addicts from entering into the campus.

In a related development, the headmistress appealed to all stakeholders to support the school’s navy cadet corps with new uniforms, boots and rifles to enable them to compete with the cadet corps of other schools.

“Our cadets participated in a number of competitions and placed second at both zonal and regional levels.

“They have qualified with four other schools from the region to participate in the Southern Sector Drill Competition to be held in Koforidua on March 30, 2020, ” Madam Coffie added.

On sports, she said that during the 2019 Inter-school Sports Festival in Ho, OLA Ho placed fourth out of the 25 participating schools, winning three gold, four silver and six bronze medals.

“Fourteen and six of our students were selected for inter-zonal and inter-regional competitions respectively,” said the headmistress.

The event coincided with the silver jubilee of the 1994-96 year group of the Past OLA Girls Association (POGA), the main sponsors of the speech and prize giving day.
