Okyeman Planners, Susubiribi to merge

The Akyem enclave in the Eastern Region is set to explode with joy in the coming days as two of the region’s big clubs are expected to join forces.

The clubs – division one side Okyeman Planners FC and third tier outfit – Susubiribi FC, are soon to announce a merger in what followers of the domestic game believe would be tremendous news for Ghana football.

It is believed the new big entity would offer a new sense of common goal and unity for the entire Akyem enclave.

The new entity is expected to offer a new sense of common footballing goal, unity and purpose for the people of Akyem.

Barring any last-minute hitch after the merger, the new club is expected to be christened Susubiribi Sporting Club.

According to chieftains of the deal, Planners and Susubiribi FC decided to merge into one entity in a move to bring the entire Akyem people together in a bid to drive support and harmony among the people.

Chiefly among facets of the club to be affected is the share-holding structure, constitution of a new management, brand positioning as well as new facilities.

The club’s share-holding structure is likely to change with new shareholders expected to come on board the new entity.

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President, Mr George Afriyie, is 100 per cent owner of Okyeman Planners FC and he will be joined by other influential personalities on the board.

A new management structure is expected to come with new brand colours which will reflect on the traditional colours of the people of Akyem.

Susubiribi was a huge name in the 1960s and nearly annexed the league in 1969, but were piped by Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
