Displaying a bundle of philanthropy, Mr Augustine Collins Ntim, Member of Parliament for Offinso North in Ashanti, in the yuletide, sent 1,000 widows scampering back to their homes beaming with toothpaste smiles following a presentation of special parcels of pieces of textiles plus undisclosed cash to each of them.
The occasion which also marked the first anniversary celebration of the death of his mother, Madam Akua Manu Adebi, a citizen of Nsuta-Kyebi in Ashanti, attracted a large crowd from all walks of life, notably chiefs, opinion leaders, Muslim leaders and the clergy from both orthodox and pentecostal churches in the constituency.
The MP who is also the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development explained that the gesture was in tune with his avowed commitment to assist the poor and vulnerable, especially the aged, widows and orphans in the constituency.
According to him, the gesture was also in compliance with his mother’s advice to him to always endeavour to assist the needy and less privileged in the society.
Mr Ntim further hinted of plans to register the poor and vulnerable with the National Health Insurance Scheme at no cost to them and enroll the able-bodied ones on skills training programmes to enable them to earn a decent living.
Visibly touched by the rare display of kindness, the widows poured praises and blessings on the MP and urged the people to support him to pursue his agenda of developing the district into a municipality status within the shortest possible.
