The Nungua Traditional Council, on Thursday handed over Indenture of a seven-acre land gifted to the Judicial Service for the construction of a court complex at Nungua in Accra.
Speaking at the short ceremony, Paramount Chief of the Nungua Traditional Area, King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, tasked the Judicial Service to commence work on the project as early as possible for the people of Nungua to access justice delivery right at their door steps.
Odaifio Welentsi III also president of the Nungua Traditional Council, told squatters on the land to vacate the place to pave way for the project to begin.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krowor Municipal Assembly (KROMA), Mr Joshua Bortei, expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers for the gesture saying the project would be funded from the common fund.
The project, he said would be completed within a maximum eight months.
“Having the court right here in the municipality would ease the burden of residents having to access the courts at Teshie, Tema or else and this will also bring law and order in the municipality,” Mr Bortei said.
Mr Adjeteye Joseph, Deputy Director in charge of Estates, Ghana Judicial Service, stressed that there was a need to bring Judicial services closer to residents and therefore they saw the urgent need to get Krowor municipality it’s own court complex.
This, Mr Adjeteye said would reduce the work load of cases from Krowor to the courts in Tema and Teshie.
