NPP electoral area elections ongoing

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has commenced processes to elect officers to steer the affairs of the party at the various electoral areas across the country.

Per the party’s guidelines, the electoral area elections would be held from March 18 to March 20, 2022 with about 5,000 electoral areas distributed among 158 districts across the country.

The party has set up electoral area elections committees to supervise the election.

All aspirants are required to pick nomination forms at a fee of GH¢10 from the election committee.

According to Evans Nimako, Director of Research and Elections, NPP, in the party’s guidelines, no prospective aspirant shall be denied access to purchase of application forms and if denied he or she had the right to petition the committee.

He said the party had made adequate provisions to ensure successful electoral processes and the election committees had responsibility to ensure transparency and fairness prevailed to ensure smooth and peaceful elections.

“According to the guidelines, which has been approved by the NPP’s Council, an applicant must be a known or active member of the party at the electoral area he or she seeks to contest and the committee is also required to receive completed application forms from prospective aspirants with three passport-size photographs not later than three days to the election.

 “They must play to the directive of the game and provide necessary and needed level playing field for all prospective aspirants because directives, rules and regulations have been given and it is expected they will abide by them,” Mr Nimako noted.

He indicated that the NPP held its polling station election from February 19 to March 5, 2022, the constituency executive election would be held at the Constituency Annual Delegates Conference to be supervised by Constituency Election Committee between April 22 and April 24, 2022.

Mr Nimako stated that the regional executive election would be held between May 20 and May 22, 2022, and would also be supervised by the Regional Elections Committee while the National Executive election and Annual National Delegates Conference is slated for July 14 to July 16, 2022, and would be supervised by National Elections Committee. -GNA
