NOBISCO 50th anniversary launched

The 50th anniversary of the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) in the Northern Region was at the weekend launched with the theme “Celebrating 50 years of holistic education, the NOBISCO story”.

The celebration will be held in November this year.

Headmaster of the school,  Alhassan Issah Dokurugu, in his remarks, noted that the existence of the institution in the past five decades signified strength, commitment and dedication of its staff.

He said NOBISCO as a school was established with a vision to be a leading second cycle institution that provided business education for students in Ghana and beyond

“The launch is not so much of a festivity, rather, it is a solemn occasion to pause and look back at this 50 years journey closely and ask the question; have we lived up to the vision, mission and ideals on which the school was founded,” he noted. 

“It is also a moment to look ahead at the mountains to still climb in our bid to produce productive and functional human capital for our dear nation Ghana,” Mr Dokurugu said 

He expressed gratitude to the founding fathers of the school, especially Mr Alex Samuel Attah, the traditional authorities, as well as the government of Ghana and all staff, Parent Teacher Association, old students who have been very critical in the growth of school from start to now.

Mr Dokurugu  said stakeholder commitment and contributions were needed to help the school in realising  its dreams

On his part, the  Deputy Minister of  Energy and Member of Parliament  (MP) for Karaga, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, and an old student of the school, commended all stakeholders who had supported the school in any form,from the time of its establishment till today.

He noted that government was aware of the several challenges facing the school and pledged to provide them with a new boys’ dormitory as part of the 50th anniversary celebration to reduce suffering of students.

He also donated a GH₵ 10,000 to support the rehabilitation of the campus Water closets (WC facility).

The paramount Chief of Sagnarigu, Naa Ambassador Yakubu Abdulai,  who chaired the event, commended the management of the school for their hard work over the years, and urged them to do more.

The Northern School of Business was established in 1972.

Currently, the school has a student population of over 3, 000 with about 227 teaching and non-teaching staff.

The school runs four main courses:  Business, General Arts, Home Economics and General Science.
