No substantive Tema Chief—TTC

The Tema Dzaase, an arm of the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) has cautioned the general public against the recognition of any individual as the Chief of Tema.

At a press conference held on Tuesday here, addressed by the Head of Jaase Nii Adzete Din, he explained that though the Tema paramountcy was now vacant following the demise of the late Nii Adjei Kraku II, there was no substantive chief.

The caution, according to the Tema Dzaase had become necessary following some media interviews granted by some individuals as the Chief and Queen Mother of Tema and even asked to be observed as such by government and the general public.

Nii Din among other things, indicated that, by Tema customs, practices, and usages, currently no individual was in possession of the proverbial black stool which signifies one’s symbolic authority as the Tema Mantse.

He also said none had gone through any of the customary practices and rites that purified a person to become a Tema Mantse.

Nii Adzete Din stated that, Tema had three ruling houses namely Nii Adjetey Ashaley, Nii Adjetey Ansah and Koklootse families to provide candidates to be installed as Tema Mantsemei (chiefs) in turns.

He said the Dzaase wishes to put on record that it would not sit idle for any group or individual to put impediments in the way of the development of the area.

He cautioned all persons to desist from such acts as that the Tema Dzaase, an arm of the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) has cautioned the general public against the recognition of any individual as the chief of Tema.

Nii Din cautioned all persons to desist from such acts as it had the tendency to soil the image of the Tema paramountcy as was the case some years ago.
