No load shedding -ECG assures

The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Kwame Agyeman-Budu,says it is not true that the company will begin loading shedding in Accra from this month to December.

He said the company had no plan to ration power in the city, and in the event that it has to do so, it would engage its stakeholders to agree on a time table and inform the public accordingly.

“It is likely we may not undertake any shedding during this final phase of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) project since we plan to transfer load to Kasoa Bulk Supply Points (BSP).

“We wish to assure all our stakeholder that we have enough generation so power supply will continue to be stable. If there should be the need for any planned outage we will inform you accordingly,” he said.

Mr Agyeman-Budu was speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday to set the record straight on some load shedding scheduled which has been in circulation for days.

Shedding light on various interventions particularly in Accra to stabilize power supply, he listed Pokuase and Kasoa BSP under the auspices of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA).

He said the Pokuase BSP had been completed; the Kasoa BSP was almost completed while the third intervention which required the stringing of lines from Tema to Achimota, Achimota to Mallam and then Achimota to Accra Central, was being managed by GRIDCo.

He said the GRIDCo intervention was in three phases with phase one which is from the Tema BSP to Achimota completed; second phase, from Achimota to Mallam almost done and the third phase is from Achimota to Accra Central.

“We are now preparing for the last phase of the upgrade works which requires engagements with stakeholders and regulators to agree on the final date to commence work.

“We have just started with the process of discussing with GRIDCo to know the impact of the works on power supply.  We will then have to look at the impact on our customers so we devise means to mitigate it”, he said.

Noting that the last phase of the GRIDCo projects had been on-going without any major outages within the city, Mr Agyeman-Buduurged the public to confirm publications of outages with ECG since we publish time tables for load management in this country.
