‘No intention to deny legitimate NPP members to contest election’

The Chairman of the Atewa East Constituency in the Eastern Region, Yaw Antwi, has stated that the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have no intention to deny any member of the party who legitimately qualifies to contest internal elections.

He denied that some members of the party were being denied access to Polling Station and Electoral Area executive nomination forms and assured that those who would have challenges with their membership would have to show prove of legitimacy.

According to Mr Antwi, Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Abena Osei-Asare, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atewa Constituency in the Eastern Region, had procured the nomination forms including additional ones for all existing polling station executives as an incentive or in recognition of their hard work, dedication and commitment

Some members of the NPP in the Atewa East constituency are threatening to reject the Polling Station Executives album yet to be compiled and claim the leadership of the constituency have declined to release nomination forms to new entrants who want to contest the current polling station executives.

They indicated that the executives have sold limited nomination forms to some new entrants’ whiles several others have been denied the opportunity to pick a form and contest when some residents stormed the party office to pick up forms but were denied.

A member of the affected party, Steven Owusu said he spent the whole of Saturday and Sunday at the constituency office but was told the forms were in limited supply and called on executives of the party to display firmness, fairness, openness and transparency or they will be dragged to court.

But Mr Antwi disclosed that the constituency had issued 3000 forms assigned to the office and expecting more and wondered why some members of the party in the constituency were accusing the executives of hoarding the forms and refusing to sell to new entrants.

“We have been fair, firm and transparent in the sale of the forms and we have not denied new entrants from contesting because if you are a legitimate member of the party and can contest why should that person be denied forms.

“Constituency and national executives has no intention to deny any legitimate member of the party to contest the election since we have so far sold 3,000 forms,” Mr Antwi stressed. –myjoyonline.com
