Nkanfoa community in Cape Coast gets youth resource centre

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, has dedicated the Daniel Ntow Obese Children and Youth Resource Centre at Nkanfoa in the Cape Coast metropolis of the Central Region.

The facility was initiated by the Obese Foundation in honour of the late Daniel Ntow Obese who was a caretaker at the PCG – Unity Congregation at Nkanfoa from 2005 to 2020.

It is expected to contribute towards the character development of the youth in the church and adjoining communities as well as offering counselling services to members of the community.

Additionally, the resource centre is expected to offer computer literacy skills to members of the church and the community with all expenses paid by the Daniel Ntow Obese Foundation.

In a sermon before the dedication of the facility, Rt. Rev. Prof. Mante expressed worry about the increasing level of betting and other forms of negative lifestyles in the country.

The government, he said, should help address the issue of betting since a number of people were now addicted to betting which he noted, were advertised on television, radio and other media outlets.

“Once people become addicted to betting, they cannot stop and when they cannot stop, they steal money and so many things,” he said.

The chairperson of the Daniel Kwaku Ntow Obese Foundation, Mrs Elizabeth Obese, said the ICT laboratory would empower the youth in the church and the community to build their competencies in ICT which was a critical component of the 21st-century skill set required by young people.

Under the training programme, she indicated that, an ICT instructor would be engaged to train the youth, adding that the foundation would offer scholarship to deserving youth from the Cape Coast metropolis to further their education at the tertiary level.

She expressed appreciation to all those who supported the foundation in diverse ways to ensure the completion of the facility.
