Nigerian arrested for selling unregistered drugs

A 39 -year-old Nigerian trader has been arrested by the Nima Police in Accra for allegedly selling unregistered drugs to the unsuspecting public.

Charles Anayoh, who had been in the country for the past four years without work or resident permit, is reported to have been operating the business for the past one-and-half year without licence.

The unregistered drugs, which were impounded by the police from his house at Korle Gonno, Accra, during his arrest, included anti-pregnancy drugs, pain killers, injectables and abortion drugs.

The Nima Divisional Police Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (Chief Supt) William Daah disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday.

The crime officer said the police had information about activities of the suspect and went to his house on March 10, to carry out a search and arrest Anayoh.

Chief Supt Daah said during interrogation, the suspect told the police he received the drugs from a man from Nigeria, to sell to pharmacies and shops.

He said samples of the seized drugs were taken to the Food and Drugs Authority for analysis, adding that the authority was waiting for a report.

The Crime Officer said Anayoh, who had been charged for possession of unregistered drugs and possession of dangerous drugs without authority, would be arraigned.
