The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah, has been put before the La Magistrate Court for flouting Road Traffic Regulations.
The MP was arrested alongside six drivers during a special exercise to check V8 vehicles on Tuesday.
A warrant was, however, issued for his arrest after he failed to appear before the court on Wednesday.
A statement from the Police yesterday said the MP subsequently presented himself to the Police.
One Samuel Anim also failed to appear before the court for flouting the road traffic regulations on the same day.
However, five drivers who appeared before the court were convicted, namely, Dominic Atuahene-Ababio, Daniel Boateng, Emmanuel Kofi Ofori and Joseph Brown were sentence to pay a fine of GH¢1,800 each or in default serve three months prison terms.
All four convicted drivers paid their fines.
One driver, Thomas Atinga, was convicted to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for three months or in default serve three months prison terms.
The Director-General of the Police Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kwesi Ofori, disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
He said the police on Wednesday put before the La Magistrate Court, the seven suspected drivers who were arrested for flouting the road traffic regulations during a special exercise.
The Director General said the police administration has directed all police formations throughout the country to clamp down on recalcitrant drivers, especially those who drive V8 vehicles.
‘’They are cautioned to stop flouting road traffic regulations or face the full rigours of the law if arrested, ’’ he added.
He said the police was determined to enforce the laws of the country and urged the public to support the police in that endeavour.
The Ghanaian Times in its Thursday, December 9, 2021, issue, reported that Dr Stephen Amoah, a lawmaker and six others were arrested by the police for road traffic offences at Airport in Accra on Tuesday.
The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaseso Constituency and the others were said to have failed to comply with the road traffic regulations, posing danger to other road users.
