Elections Community of Practice and Learning, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) focusing on electoral processes, has questioned the commitment, dedication and determination of government in implementing the recommendations of the constitutional review committee.
According to the NGO, processes to review the 1992 Constitution appeared to have hit a snag after the review committee finished its work and called on the government to implement the recommendations of the committee.
Alexander Bankole Williams, Chairman of the Advocacy Committee of the Ghana Federation for the Disabled and a member of the NGO, said “what we have to do is to implement the agreed-upon investigations, that is what the citizenry want, we should be seeing a clear implementation approach and plan since the John Mahama-led administration commissioned a committee to ensure its implementation, not long after there was a change of government.
“Today, we have not seen the current government’s commitment, dedication and determination towards the implementation because the current president spoke in favour of the implementation, why are we not seeing any action? Why are we allowing $6 million of taxpayers’ money to go waste,” Mr Williams bemoaned.
Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, the Ranking Member of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament, noted that the government was not committed, determined and dedicated to the processes and insisted that ”there is clear evidence that there is no commitment, determination and dedication to implement the recommendations of the commission.” -starrfmonline.com
