NEWREST Ghana Limited receives National Halal Certification

The National Halal Certification Committee (NHCC) of Ghana has issued Halal Compliance Certificate to NEWREST Ghana Limited, a company that provides inflight catering services to international and domestic airlines in Ghana and abroad.

The issuance of the Halal Compliance Certificate to NEWREST Ghana Limited means that NEWREST Ghana produces food and beverages that conform to the Islamically accepted standards and food safety protocols that must be adhered to before consumption.

Halal compliant company in general means the establishment observes all the Halal and general food safety standards and protocols.

The National Halal Certification Committee’s work involves the inspection of products and companies from conceptualisation to production, a statement issued by the NHCC signed by AlhajiAwaisu Bio, the Executive Secretary, Office of the National Chief Imam of Ghana (ONCI), copied the Ghanaian Times said.

In discharging its duty, the committee considers, for analysis, added value products and services associated with the product or company to ensure that it conforms to Islamic principles, esthetics and consumption.

Generally, the committee ascertained that the company had the necessary machinery and the human resource to produce food for consumption by the public in Ghana and abroad in line with Islamic commercial, moral and legal systems.

The certification and inspection of NEWREST company was done under the supervision of AlhajiAwaisu Bio Salisu, the Executive Secretary of the Office of National Chief Imam of Ghana (ONCI) and AlhajiKhuzaima Mohammed Osman, the Chief Halal inspector and training conductor who represents the Tijjaniya Muslims Movement of Ghana on the committee.

The National Halal Certification Committee (NHCC) is an independent consortium that was established in 2017 in a joint collaborative effort between the Office of the National Chief Imam of Ghana (ONCI) and the Tijjaniya Muslims Movement of Ghana (TMMG).

The Gadagme Muslims Council of Ghana (GMC) recently joined the consortium to widen its scope and works to ensure that Ghanaian Muslims eat, drink, consume and use Halal compliance foods, beverages and cosmetics.

The (NHCC) is planning to launch a National Campaign on Halal Consumption in the Muslim Community soon to promote the consumption of Halal products and foods, the statement, adding that there were many cosmetic products in the market that were not Halal complaints and hence not good for our women but they don’t know.

The statement urged all food vendors, restaurants, hotels, guest houses, pharmaceutical companies, abattoirs, slaughterhouses and food processing companies operating in Ghana, to register to have their companies and food processes inspected to ensure Halal Compliance.

Among the companies that have been certified by the NHCC are Promasidor Ghana and KFC Ghana, the statement added.
