Netball experts expected in Ghana for ‘Legacy Programme’

A group of technical experts under a programme dubbed ‘Legacy Programme’ are expected in Ghana on September 22, 2022.

They will be in Ghana for a 10-day visit which will end on Saturday, October 1.

While here, they would conduct the programme which is an offshoot of a World Netball tournament to be hosted by Netball South Africa in 2023.

The Legacy Programme is being funded and implemented by Netball South Africa.

Speaking to the Times Sports yesterday, the Netball Federation of Ghana (NFG) President, Rev Emmanuel Nikoi described the event as one that will resuscitate what appears to be a dead sport in Ghana.

According to Rev Nikoi, the team will be accompanied by the President of Netball South Africa, Mad. Cecilia Molokwane and the World Netball representative in Africa, Mad. Joan Fruit.

Within the 10-day period, they will organize coaching clinics, umpiring and technical courses for participants from the Netball Federation of Ghana.

He said the team will also hold a meeting with the Executive Board of the NFG on September 27-28, 2022 and followed with the launch ofa netball initiative dubbed ‘Friday Netball’ on September 30, 2022.

The group’s activities would be climaxed with meetings with major stakeholders of sports in Ghana including the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Mustapha Ussif, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof Peter Twumasi and the Executive Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Africa Games 2023, Dr Kweku Ofosu Asare.

Rev Nikoi said the meetings and programmes were very important as Ghana prepare to host the Africa Games which the NFG hopes to use as a platform to relaunch the sport Ghana was considered key participants.

The meeting will also seek ways for the President of Africa Netball, World Netball Representative in Africa and the Ghanaian sports authorities to stage a successful netball event at the Africa Games.
