Executive Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute (KNII), Dr Benjamin Anyagre, has observed that there is the need to have a national consensus on determining the exact mode of recognition for the country’s founding fathers.
“There is the need to have a national consensus on determining the exact mode of recognition for the country’s founding fathers to create a credible blueprint that will enable generations unborn, to have a good understanding of the country’s history, especially its founding base,” he stressed.
According to Dr Anyagre, it was important to come to consensus with the citizenry on how to address the nation’s founding base towards a credible blueprint that would enable generations unborn, to have a good understanding of history, especially founding base.
Touching on the ‘Founder’s Day’ commemoration on August 4, he noted that while the day was of great essence, it was also important to acknowledge Dr Kwame Nkrumah as Ghana’s leading founder and explained that in all other democratic dispensations of countries, there was always recognition of a single person’s efforts when it came to great strides such as national liberation, citing late former President Nelson Mandela and the South Africa Apartheid scenario.
Dr Anyagre entreated leadership to recognise a leading founder when it came to great strides such as national liberation which must be acknowledged and understood by the country’s historians and impact it on the rest of the citizens to avoid the situation where there is no determining mode for such recognitions. -GNA
