NDC relishes to recapture Damongo seat

Adam Muntawakilu, the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency in the Savannah Region, has asserted that the party’s chances of recapturing the seat are almost a certainty.

He explained that the factors that led to his defeat in the last election were fast-changing, and he believes the NDC would win back the seat in 2024.

Mr Muntawakilu lost the Damongo seat after eight years in Parliament to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Samuel Abdulai Jinapor in 2020.

Speaking after a day’s training workshop for party communicators in Damongo, MrMuntawakilu said there was an 80 percent chance the NDC would recapture the seat and maintained that, “recapturing the seat is 80 per cent possible because most of what happened in 2020 will not repeat itself, and bussing 5,000 people and only winning 2,000 will not happen.”

He insisted that the electorates did not know who they were dealing with initially; now they had got to know him and in less than a year, his own members and supporters of the party had started rejecting Mr Jinapor’s gifts, so the dynamics were fast-changing.

Mr. Muntawakilu disclosed that he was still consulting and assessing the situation to decide, adding that, “for now, I am still doing my own internal research, and until I am done with that I cannot make a conclusive statement on whether I will contest or not.

“When the time comes and I am interested, I will contest and anybody the party decides on, will be supported and assisted by all of us,” Mr Muntawakilu said.

Alhaji Mohammed Limuna, former Minister of State, called for unity within the party in the constituency since they could not continue to be fighting each other “if they intend to be victorious in 2024.

“I appeal to all of us to have a two-way communication for us to come together; we are now orphans,we do not have mother and father in the constituency; we cannot continue quarreling when we are orphans, we must come together, strategise and recapture the seat,” he stressed.

The Damongo Constituency Communications Officers of NDC assured that there was every indication that Mr Muntawakilu would recapture the seat by ensuring their messages for him and former President, John Mahama, were marketable to electorates. –citinewsroom.com
