The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) parliamentary aspirant for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, Israel Nornyibey, has called on party members to remain united in order to win the 2020 general election.
According to him, it was also important for the party to build a very strong relationship with founders and former party leaders to receive their support and guidance ahead of the elections.
“With unity amongst the older and younger generation of the party, we are certain that the NDC will return to power after the 2020 elections,” he stated.
Mr Nornyibey was speaking when he hosted some living ‘legends’ of the party in the constituency to reunite and share ideas as part of the Easter celebrations in an event dubbed: ‘Time with the Living Legends.’
The astute marketing consultant who spoke in seven different languages including Twi, Ewe, Ga and Hausa encouraged the young upcoming politicians to be submissive and learn from their old folks in order to be successful.
“This event is to wind down and share advice while we relive some nostalgic moments in our history. I believe firmly that the legends who have worked hard for the party have a lot of experience and wisdom to share and we intend to tap into them to equip and rejuvenate the party for victory in 2020.
“All we seek is to boost our collective determination to reorganise our party, promote unity within our ranks, energise our branches and work towards winning the 2020 general election.
“They must work together to remove the orphan tag placed on the Dome Kwabenya constituency since the beginning of the Fourth Republic.
Isaac Adama, the first parliamentary candidate for the party at the constituency, was also confident that the party could wrestle power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if they remained united and commended Mr Nornyibey for his hard work, dedication, commitment and determination.
Edem Agbana, Deputy Youth Organiser of the NDC, cautioned that the disconnect between the current party leaders and the former leaders was one of the causes of the 2016 defeat and expressed gratitude Mr Nornyibey had taken steps to get the elders of the party involved.
