The Vetting Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ellembelle Constituency of the Western Region has put on hold the vetting results of one of the two aspirants for the parliamentary primary in the constituency, Mieza-Mea Alleah.
This followed a petition filed against his candidature by an aspirant Kofi Anaman, who had earlier picked nomination forms to contest but stepped down for incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
That has resulted in some concerned members of the NDC in the constituency threatening to put an injunction on the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries following what they term “subtle attempts to disqualify Mieza-Mea Alleah”.
According to them, few minutes before his vetting, a group purported to be from the camp of Mr Anaman petitioned the committee against Mr Alleah indicating that he was not qualified to contest the primaries because of alleged variations in signatures of endorsers and alleged forgery of signatures.
They claimed that they were mere attempts to frustrate and disqualify him from contesting the parliamentary primaries which were baseless as per the guidelines for the election of the party’s parliamentary candidates for the 2020 elections as constituency electoral committee and executives duly crosschecked details of Mr Alleah’s forms before accepting same at constituency party office on 18th July 18, 2019.
Addressing a press conference in Ellembelle, Mathias Kwaw, spokesperson of the concerned members, alleged that “the seeming acceptance of the bogus and useless allegations by the vetting committee further deepens our suspicion there are forces within the party scheming for Mr Buah to contest unopposed”.
Contributing, Ndede Amoako, Coordinator of the concerned members, explained that Mr Alleah, at the vetting, was responding to a petition when a member of the committee told him to stop and put his response into writing which he compiled and wrote to them but the committee refused to respond.
“While awaiting the committee’s response, Mr Buah was cleared to contest and has already commenced campaign in earnest, contesting unopposed, disadvantage to Mr Alleah as committee is yet to rule on petition,” he lamented.
Mr Amoako bemoaned that attempts to get the national executives of the party to explain the delay had not yielded any results and threatened to go to court to have their grievance addressed. –3news.com
