NDC cannot use Bagbin for ‘parochial agenda’ …E.T. Mensah insists

Former Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampramin the Greater Accra Region, E.T. Mensah, has insisted that the notion that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will dictate to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, should be discarded by all.

He explained that Mr Bagbin is an independent-minded personand thus would not do the bidding of anyone or allow himself to be influenced by the NDC, although he is a member.

Thenewly-inaugurated Council of State representative for the Greater Accra Region indicated that,“I do not think it makes meaning that people suggest that since Mr Bagbin is an NDC member, he will do the bidding of former President John Mahama and the NDC at large”.

On January 7, 2021, Mr Bagbin, the former Member of Parliament for Nadowli/Kaleo in the Upper West Region and the Second Deputy Speaker in the previous Parliament, was elected as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament by parliamentarians with 138 votes.

His only contender, Professor Mike Oquaye, polled 136 votes.

Mr Mensah gave the assurance thatMr Bagbin would never do such a thing because he knew Mr Bagbin an independent thinker and he did not think members of the NDC in Parliament pushed him there to do their bidding.

He said due to his pedigree, they suggested him, and it worked out to perfection and no one should expect the Speaker of Parliament to do their bidding, having known him as the Majority Whip.

“I have worked with him and back then, if we had to make a decision, we would keep arguing as though we are on opposing sides until we arrive at the right conclusion on the matter and I maintain that nobody can use Mr Bagbin and I can assure you no one can ever do that,” Mr Mensah stressed. –citinewsroom.com
