NDC asks members to desist from comments on internal matters

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked its members against rushing to pass comments on internal matters including decisions and actions of party leadership.

“While upholding the principle of free expression of views including the right to dissent within the party, the Political Committee is of the view such exchanges should be conducted in decorous language, mindful at all times the party’s interest is supreme and focus on working together to kick the government out of power to save the country,” it said.

At its meeting held in Accra, the Political Committee of the party under the chairmanship of the flagbearer and leader of the party, John Mahama, discussed issues pertaining to preparations for the December 2020 general election, with specific reference to matters of party unity and party discipline.

The statement said the tendency on the part of some party members to rush to pass uninformed comments on internal matters, including decisions and actions of party leadership was worrying and the practice must stop.

It said certain insulting and disparaging comments in the media made against the National Chairman, Ofosu Ampofo, and other members of a delegation which visited the Okyenhene upon advice of the Political Committee to intercede on behalf of Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party.

“While upholding the principle of free expression of views including the right to dissent within the party, the Political Committee is of the view such exchanges should be conducted in decorous language, mindful at all times the party’s interest is supreme,

it is also important to emphasise we have common opponent seeking to destroy the future of our country who is quick to capitalise on any seeming internal turmoil.

“Our energies should be channelled towards defeating our opponent who has inflicted unbearable pain and economic hardships on us and plunged the country deeper into the abyss of corruption and urge senior party members and those on the frontline to set good example and refrain from media exchanges which incite indiscipline, disloyalty and disrespect.

“The Political Committee has accordingly advised the Functional Executive Committee to take urgent steps to enforce party discipline, take appropriate action against all those who indulged in unacceptable conduct on social media with respect to matter of delegation’s visit to the Okyenhene,” the statement said. -myjoyonline.com
