NDC Ashanti worried over infiltrated membership register

Some concerned executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region are worried that the ongoing exercise to register its members has been infiltrated by individuals who are not loyal to the party.

They noted that the current verification updates being undertaken ahead of its branch elections needed to be stopped for the party to audit its membership list by matching names with faces at the branch level.

The concerned executives insisted that the leadership of the party must audit the membership list to forestall unforeseen circumstances that could affect the fortunes of the party in the next elections.

“It seems the register, we have ghost names in it because we have tried to call some numbers and the number is not going through and some too, if you call him or her he or she is saying not aware of the register.

“What we realised during the last elections was that our polling agents were not qualified to head our branches, most of them were not loyal NDC members, supporters or sympathisers so they were not conversant with the electoral processes and allow themselves to be manipulated causing the party’s defeat at the polling stations,” they lamented.

The executives urged the leadership of the party to be vigilant and strict in selecting members, supporters and sympathisers in manning the polling stations to avoid infiltration by political opponents of the NDC to ruin its fortunes in 2024 elections.

The NDC last week released the timetable for its internal elections approved by the National Executive Committee of (NEC) of the party.

All newly created branches would have new branch executive and only members of a branch who registered by 2018 can contest and all members with their names on the branch register can vote. -3news.com
