The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that its 2020 election campaign will be based on the “superior records” of former president John Mahama as well as his integrity and sincerity.
According to the party, the traits are what the current government was lacking because the former president had better alternatives to the policies and programmes being implemented by the government.
“We are presenting a presidential candidate who has by far a superior record on all issues of our national politics whether it is health, roads, industry and education, he has superior records in all these critical sectors,” the NDC touted.
Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Officer of the NDC, explained that former President Mahama, who is seeking to be president again, had done it before and had credibility saying “we are telling Ghanaians if you give him that opportunity again, you will see growth, development and progress again, what we have witnessed under the government is decline and retrogression.
“We are going to fight the elections and win on basis of our superior alternatives since former President Mahama is a man of vision, right alternative policies and programmes which can transform our country for the teeming unemployed youth and bring prosperity.
“The NDC has, by far, better alternatives to the government’s policies and programmes, one of the qualities former President Mahama is coming on board with for 2020 polls is his commitment, dedication and determination to engage the grassroots and other citizens to take up their views and concerns to be incorporated into his governance plan if elected.
“His sincerity, traits and humility as an individual is something we treasure because that is what we lack currently, the leadership we are experiencing is leadership of dishonesty, deception and arrogance but some people think the country belongs to them and the NDC doesn’t think like that,” Mr Gyamfi posited.
He indicated that former President Mahama’s current tour was meant to touch base with the citizenry and reassure them of his plans to improve their lives, seeking a comeback after losing the presidential seat to a second-time contestant, President Akufo-Addo in the 2016 elections.
While Akufo-Addo polled 5,755,758 votes representing 53.7 per cent of the total valid votes cast, then President Mahama polled 4,771,188 votes representing 44.5 per cent. -citinewsroom.com
