Nat’l Peace Council urges circumspection among political parties

The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, Chairman of the National Peace Council has urged political parties to be circumspect to ensure total eradication of vigilantism for the law to be impactful in propagating message of peace, unity and national cohesion.

“The law on vigilantism will not be impactful without concerted efforts and circumspection on the party of the various political parties to propagate messages of peace, unity and national cohesion,” he cautioned.

Most Rev Prof Asante was speaking at a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) sponsored dialogue and advocacy programme for stakeholders of the governance system and political parties at Konongo in the Ashanti Region on ways to curtail the canker of vigilantism.

“We want to get the dedication, determination and commitment of all the political leaders to continue talking before, during and after the elections, not only among themselves but also with the citizenry on the agenda of dialogue and advocacy where the country is heading towards,” he stressed.

While reproachful and expressing his disappointment and resentment at the recent clashes between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the Most Rev Prof Asante noted that “it is important for political parties to be circumspect and decorous in their campaigns to avoid provocation, tension, conflict and clashes”.

“The leadership of the various political parties must speak to their members, supporters, well wishers and faithful against provocation, tension, clashes and conflict in their campaigns,” he said. -adomonline.com
