Nankese-Abisim Basic School gets new classroom block

A six-unit classroom block has been inaugurated for the Nankese-Abisim Municipal Assembly (M/A) Basic School in the Suhum municipality of the Eastern Region last Friday, to improve the quality of education in the area.

The GH₵250,000 facility has a head teacher’s office, teacher’s dining hall, staff room, ceiling fans, lights, cupboards, teacher’s chairs and tables.

It will benefit more than 240 pupils who were stacked in the 80-year old dilapidated classrooms.

The project was funded by Motec-Life-UK, a medical charity and was launched in April 2017.

The Founding President of Motec-Life, Dr Paul Ofori-Atta, urged the teachers to inculcate good morals in the children and ensure that they took their studies seriously to become responsible adults.

According to him, many schools requested for the project but after visiting the schools they found out that the state of the Nankese-Abisim Basic School was appalling, hence the decision by his team to embark on the project.

For her part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Suhum municipality, Margret Darko-Darkwa, urged the teachers to give the appropriate punishment to pupils when they erred.

She urged the chiefs and school authorities to take good care of the facility to attract more development in the area.

Also, the chief of Abisim, Nana Baffour Adjarnor, urged parents to make the education of their wards a priority.

He promised to liaise with the MCE to extend the school feeding programme to the school to encourage more parents to enroll their children into the school.

Nana Adjarnor thanked Dr Ofori-Atta and his wife, Gladys Ofori-Atta for the project.

The head teacher of the school, Mr Julius Okyere Bekoe, encouraged parents to take advantage of the new classroom block and enroll their wards into the school.

He appealed to the government to provide the school with a computer laboratory.
