Namibia’s AFCON squad

NAMIBIA coach Ricardo Mannetti has named his 23-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations finals, including Blackburn Rovers right-back Ryan Nyambe.

Nyambe made his national team debut in Sunday’s 1-0 warm-up victory over Ghana in Dubai, that would have served as a massive boost in confidence for the Brave Warriors.

The 21-year-old can also play more in the centre and adds to the options of Mannetti, who says he looked at tactics, conditioning, performance and attitude of the players before making his final picks.

“Those are the pillars of our decision. Also, the inclusion of Ryan Nyambe at the back, his versatility is key for the changes at the back. We feel this team has the right energy, they are right for the tactics and will represent Namibia to the best of their abilities. These are the right players with the right work ethic and harmony,” the coach said.

There are eight players based in South Africa in ther selection, including the Highlands Park duo of Denzil Haoseb and Peter Shalulile, and BidVest Wits winger Deon Hotto.

Also included is striker Manfred Starke, who plays for Carl Zeiss Jena in the lower leagues in Germany.
